New Orleans Solar School Initiative

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Wolfe Law Group is always interested in news related to Green Building Practices in the New Orleans and Seattle metropolitan areas. Currently, the New Orleans Solar School Initiative, a collaboration between Entergy Corporation (the local energy company), Nike, the Department of Energy, the Louisiana U.S. Green Building Chapter and many others are installing solar panels on public school buildings.

Work on an advanced, hurricane-resistant solar roof wrapped up this week at Warren Easton Senior High School, the first project of many in this initiative. Not only are Green Building Practices being applied to the construction and re-construction of these buildings, the students are receiving hands on education about Green Building.

With a new addition to the curriculum, students work with recently developed software, allowing them to see the benefits of solar power and other energy saving practices.   These students are the future of the city and the New Orleans Solar School Initiative is ensuring that the youth continue to support the sustainable aspects of Green Building.

New Orleans, a city devastated by Hurricane Katrina over four years ago is still re-building.  Programs such as this one showcase the city’s dedication to rebuilding to help boost the local economy and decrease New Orleans’ carbon footprints.

Happy Earth Day!

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

earthinhandsToday, April 22, 2009, marks the 39th anniversary of Earth Day– an occassion founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson to inspire awareness and appreciation for the environment, celebrate the gains we have made and create new visions to accelerate environmental progress, according to earthday.gov.

As we enter the Green Boom, green law and green business are hot topics and just about everyone is trying to figure out a way to jump on the Green bandwagon – WLG included.

Our commitment to Going Green is going strong and we are proud of our own green efforts. Since our conception in 2005 WLG has committed significant time and resources to both practicing green business and sharing our knowledge of green business with others.

In the past 4 years WLG has enacted an ever-evolving Green Initiative that now encompasses:

  • All legal pleadings, letters and documents are printed on recycled paper made with at least 30% post-consumer materials.
  • All trashed paper is shredded and recycled;
  • The firm is committed to running a paperless office;
  • All offices have a standing no-plastics policy, and all water for clients and employees is poured from Britta pitchers into reusable glasses;
  • All offices use energy efficient lighting;
  • Business Cards, Promotional Printings and more are purchased from vendors who have environmental friendly packaging and practices;
  • Coffee is purchased from vendors who have environmentally friendly packaging and practices;

In April 2009 WLG renewed its commitment to green business practices by launching lagreenlaw.com, a green building law blog helping the contractors and lawyers of Louisiana by providing information and resources pertaining to green building news and practices. We are very excited with the results and we look forward to launching green building blogs for new states in the coming months.

We encourage you to join in our commitment to Go Green and wish you all a Happy Earth Day!

Wolfe Law Group Makes Wishes Come True

scoop

Wolfe Law Group, a construction law firm in Seattle, WA and New Orleans, LA, announced its unique valentine to its clients,  showing the company’s appreciation of their support and trust.  On behalf of its clients, Wolfe Law Group collaborated with the Make A Wish Foundation to grant the wish of a terminally ill child.

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WolfeLaw.Com) February 12, 2009 – The first Valentine’s Day was officially celebrated over 1,700 years ago with a historical background that remains a mystery. Today, however, Valentine’s Day embraces ideas of love, affection, appreciation and inspiration.  The Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately one billion valentines are sent each year worldwide.

Wolfe Law Group wanted to take this opportunity to send a unique valentine to our clients, showing the company’s appreciation of their support and trust.  On behalf of our clients, Wolfe Law Group collaborated with the Make A Wish Foundation to grant the wish of a terminally ill child.  With a list a mile long of children well deserving of their wish, Spencer, a five year old boy from LaSalle, Louisiana who loves the color red, bugs, Power Rangers and Pizza, caught our attention and melted our hearts.

Spencer was diagnosed with Wilm’s Tumor, a neuroblastoma that develops in immature kidney cells. Wilm’s Tumor occurs almost exclusively in children ages 3-8 and rarely develops after the age of 8.  A boy from Louisiana, Spencer’s wish is to play in the snow.  A simple request with an overtone of integrity and awe-struck wonder. This particular wish was incredibly inspirational to the staff at Wolfe Law Group.

Wolfe Law Group and the Make A Wish Foundation are sending Spencer and his family to Utah for 8 days.  Spencer is looking forward to a sleigh ride, going tubing and throwing snowballs at his brothers

Granting this wish is our Valentine’s Day gift to Spencer and to Wolfe Law Group’s clients, who through their involvement and confidence in our service, have allowed our company to grow and succeed.  Thank you and Happy Valentine’s Day on behalf of the staff at Wolfe Law Group.

For more information about Wolfe Law Group, please visit www.wolfelaw.com.  Currently, the Make A Wish Foundation has not released further information about Spencer and the details of his wish.  For more information about Wolfe Law Group’s Valentine’s Day Wish, contact Jessica at 504-894-9653 or 206-801-1600 or by email at jessica@wolfelaw.com.

Wolfe Law Group's Enviornmental Protection Efforts

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

earthinhandsOctober 2008- Wolfe Law Group, a paperless office aims to reduce its negative effects on the environment. Shred- it, the world’s leading on site document destruction company serves the recycling needs of the two offices in Seattle and New Orleans.

Recycled paper is re-used to create more paper or paper products which in turn saves millions of trees. With the help of Shred- It, Wolfe Law Group has saved four trees and hopes to increase that number in the future.

Wolfe Law Group’s office administrator, Jessica Hunter states, “It is our social responsibility to take a proactive stance on how to lessen our office’s daily environmental impact.” Some tips on how your company can help the environment include:

1.)Think before you print! Does this document need to be printed? If so, can it be printed on already used paper or can it printed as a double sided document?

2.) Have recycling bins readily available to your employees and some information posted in a common area about the types of items that are considered recyclable materials.

3.) Cut down on the junk mail you receive at your office. Two new organizations, 41Pounds.org and Greendimes.com, will contact direct marketers and other companies on your behalf and have them remove your name from mailing lists.

Get motivated and Go Green!

Wolfe Law Group Joins Master Builders Association

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Wolfe Law Group is happy to announce that is now an Associate Member of the Master Builders Association (MBA) of King and Snohomish Counties.

The Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties (MBA) was founded in 1909 by a group of Seattle builders who saw a need to unite to address the many concerns and issues affecting the housing industry.

Today, the MBA membership continues to take an active role in all facets of home construction in the Puget Sound region.

Wolfe Law Group’s membership in the MBA is an example of its commitment to not only the legal community, but the trade of construction.

“Our firm is married to the construction industry,” says founding member Scott Wolfe, Jr. “We believe in the importance of the trade to every community, and we are committed to playing our part in the growth of the construction industries where we practice.”

“Unlike many other firms practicing construction law, Wolfe Law Group is fanatically focused on the practice area,” says member Doug Reiser. “All of our attorneys have some level of construction experience, and our Seattle office was opened right in the heart of the Northwest’s industrial community: SODO.”

Wolfe Law Group Loves Planet Earth – Join Our Commitment

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

earthinhandsOn Earth Day, Wolfe Law Group renews its commitment to Planet Earth, and encourages clients, colleges and business partners to do the same.

In January 2008, the construction law boutique firm Wolfe Law Group announced its Green Initiative, designed to meet its conservation goals and those of their clients with more environmentally conscious practices. You can read the press release here: Green Press Release.

We encourage our clients and business partners to learn more about our fragile planet, and to join in our commitment to do our part.

“Its the small things that really make a difference,” says Scott Wolfe, founding partner of Wolfe Law Group. “And it’s easy to use recycled paper instead of regular paper, water pitchers instead of water bottles, and more. In fact, these conservative practices are frequently even economical.”

The firm’s Green Initiative includes the following measures:

  • All legal pleadings, letters and documents are printed on recycled paper made with at least 30% post-consumer materials.
  • All trashed paper is shredded and recycled;
  • The firm is committed to running a paperless office;
  • All offices have a standing no-plastics policy, and all water for clients and employees is poured from Britta pitchers into washable glasses;
  • The firm uses energy efficient lighting;
  • Business Cards, Promotional Printings and more are purchased from vendors who have environmental friendly packaging and practices;

Day Spent Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity

Friday, April 11th, 2008

As part of its Community Initiative, Wolfe Law Group spent an April day with the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity, helping construct a New Orleans home with the Bench & Bar Project.

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WolfeLaw) April 11, 2008 — As part of its Community Initiative, Wolfe Law Group closed its doors on Friday, April 11, 2008, and spent the day volunteering with the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity.

Swinging hammers at a traditional New Orleans shotgun single on Eagle Street in-between uptown and mid-city, members of the firm spent the day helping construct Cherie LeBlanc’s future home. The home and project was featured on Bravo’s Make Me A Supermodel.

The 3525 Eagle Street project is part of the United States Eastern District Court’s Bench & Bar Project, whereby attorneys, judges and other members of the legal community come together to build the home. The project is organized to coincide with Jimmy & Rosealynn Carter’s Work Project.

The organized “Volunteer Day” is part of Wolfe Law Group’s Community Initiative.  Each month, the firm takes off work for one Friday to volunteer with the local community.

The Community Initiative was started in December 2007, when we closed the office to wrap Christmas gifts for low income children through Seattle’s Forgotten Childrens’ Fund.
