Day Spent Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity

As part of its Community Initiative, Wolfe Law Group spent an April day with the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity, helping construct a New Orleans home with the Bench & Bar Project.

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WolfeLaw) April 11, 2008 — As part of its Community Initiative, Wolfe Law Group closed its doors on Friday, April 11, 2008, and spent the day volunteering with the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity.

Swinging hammers at a traditional New Orleans shotgun single on Eagle Street in-between uptown and mid-city, members of the firm spent the day helping construct Cherie LeBlanc’s future home. The home and project was featured on Bravo’s Make Me A Supermodel.

The 3525 Eagle Street project is part of the United States Eastern District Court’s Bench & Bar Project, whereby attorneys, judges and other members of the legal community come together to build the home. The project is organized to coincide with Jimmy & Rosealynn Carter’s Work Project.

The organized “Volunteer Day” is part of Wolfe Law Group’s Community Initiative. Each month, the firm takes off work for one Friday to volunteer with the local community.

The Community Initiative was started in December 2007, when we closed the office to wrap Christmas gifts for low income children through Seattle’s Forgotten Childrens’ Fund.

Buying Coffee Turns Into Opportunity to Help Pets

The expense of coffee within a law office is almost an afterthought, but Wolfe Law Group is happy to announce that it has found a creative way to give back to its communities by simply doing what it does throughout the day: drink coffee.

Wolfe Law Group’s offices in Louisiana and Washington now purchase all coffee from the Pacific Northwest Company, Specialty Roast. For every 1 pound of coffee purchased, $2.00 is donated to a non-profit organization of your choice.

A company like Wolfe Law Group, who consumes approximately 300-400 pounds of coffee each year, will donate more than $600-800 to its cause using money that’s already in the budget.

In Louisiana, Wolfe Law Group’s donations are going to the Louisiana SPCA. In Washington, donations go to the King County SPCA.

“This is really a no-brainer,” says Scott Wolfe, founding partner of Wolfe Law Group. “As soon as I heard about Specialty Roast’s business model, I knew that we had to involve it. We spend money on coffee regardless of where its purchased. The Specialty Roast coffee tastes great, its delivered to our door steps and its donating part of the price to charity.”

The choice of the SPCA non-profit is in part thanks to Wolfe Law Group’s office french bulldog, Oscar. In fact, every bag of coffee delivered from Specialty Roast has an image of Oscar on its label. To increase the amount of coffee purchased each year, the firm also plans on ordering large quantities of coffee to distribute to colleagues and clients.

“Everyone drinks coffee, and would appreciate the gift” says Emily Bull, public relations manager at the firm. “Plus, it will introduce that person to Specialty Roast, who may in turn set up an account and start contributing to another non-profit with money already built into their budget.”

Oscar, a French Bulldog, is an office pet for Wolfe Law Group. He travels from New Orleans to Seattle spending time in both offices, and is a friend to vendors and clients. The Wolfe Law Group Oscar Photo Album can be viewed below:

Wolfe Law Goes Green

earthinhands The New Orleans, LA and Seattle, WA boutique construction firm, Wolfe Law Group, announced today its WLG Goes Green Initiative, designed to meet their conservation goals and those of their clients with more environmentally conscious practices.

The legal field is not an easy place to be utilize environmentally friendly practices, as its extraordinarily paper-oriented. Wolfe Law Group, however, who opened it’s doors to a second office in SODO earlier this month, announced that they are taking unprecedented steps to “go green” in 2008.

While in recent days there are many businesses “going green,” law firms have been a bit slower to make the leap.

“Our industry has some challenges in ‘going green,’ and most of them revolve around paper. We go through reams and reams of paper, and the small difference in cost between regular and recycled paper can make a real difference in your bottom line at the end of year,” explains Scott Wolfe, founder of Wolfe Law Group. “We work hard to run a paperless office, which allows us to use much less paper than your everyday firm. We, therefore, can justify the difference in cost and print only on recycled materials.”

Not only does Wolfe Law Group recycle and use recycled paper products, and work in a paperless practice, but they have adopted an ambitious plan that also includes enforcing a plastics-free policy on beverages, utilizing energy efficient light bulbs and more.

“We’re conscious,” says Doug Reiser, head attorney in the Seattle office. “We take steps everyday to conserve according to our plans, and then to continue evolving our environmental practices.”

Wolfe Law Group Opens Doors in SODO, Joins SODO Business Association

Wolfe Law Group is happy to announce it has opened the doors to its new full-time office in the SODO Business District of Seattle, WA. Wolfe Law Group becomes the first legal practice to establish a presence in the area, a traditionally industrial district, and is the only law firm in SODO focused on serving the construction industry. “We’re very excited about opening and serving the SODO community,” says Scott Wolfe, founding partner of the firm. “The neighborhood has a great energy, and we’re looking forward to being part of the ongoing changes here.”

The community, in fact, has changed over the past ten years, transitioning from a pure industrial area to a new mixed community ushered in by the opening of the Starbucks Center, Quest Field and Safeco Field.

In furtherance of the firm’s commitment to the area, it has also joined the SODO Business Association, an organization serving the agenda of the 50,000 employees and 2,000 businesses within SODO.

“It’s a natural fit for Wolfe Law Group,” says Doug S. Reiser, an attorney heading the firm’s new office. “Seattle has one of the country’s most prominent construction markets, and the center of that market is right here in SODO. This office is accessible to the construction industry and our clients.” Wolfe Law Group was founded in post-Katrina New Orleans, and only recently expanded to Seattle. “Our roots are important,” says Scott Wolfe, a New Orleans native. “We have some gut-wrenching background from the post-Katrina experience, which really cut this firm’s teeth. As we face the sub-prime concern here in Seattle, and a potential drop in construction numbers for the first time in years, our firm can bring real-world emergency experience to the table to deliver creative alternatives and results.”

“Aside from our unique experience and offerings, we think there is something really innovative about this new law office,” says Reiser. “Our firm focuses entirely on construction law, and we’re the first to come straight into SODO, the heart of Seattle’s construction market.” The 2000 square foot space is located at 3232 First Ave South, just steps away from the SODO Deli and A2T Graphics. The firm has construction lawyers practicing in New Orleans, LA and Seattle, WA. Our practice focuses on serving the construction industry and the parties involved with construction projects.

Wolfe Law Group Joins SODO Business Association

After recently opening its doors to a new full time office in SODO, a traditionally industrial district near downtown Seattle, Wolfe Law Group is pleased to announce that it has joined the SODO Business Association.

Serving the largest industrial district in the Pacific Northwest, the SODO Business Association works on behalf of the 20,000 employees and 2000 businesses within the district to encourage and empower the economic and cultural improvement of the area.

The firm is pleased to be a part of the organization, and pleased to be a part of the SODO Community.

“Seattle has one of the country’s most prominent contstruction markets, and the center of that market is right here in SODO,” says Doug Reiser, an attorney hearing the firm’s new office. “We want to be accessible to the construction industry and our clients. There are many legal challenges facing those in construction, and there’s no reason for our firm to be anywhere else than right next door.”

Holiday Trip and Community Initiative

earthinhands
To cap off 2007 and celebrate the holiday season, the staff at Wolfe Law Group’s New Orleans office made a holiday trip to Seattle to view the new office and have some fun.

“This trip was important for our office workers in New Orleans who have worked so hard to support the new Seattle venture,” says Scott Wolfe, founding partner of the firm. “On the flip side, our Seattle staff was excited to see the new faces and support, and was in need of the short break.”

Wolfe Law Group plans to take a similar trip each year to celebrate the prior days and discuss the future.

The trip began on Friday, December 14th, when office staff from both New Orleans and Seattle spent the morning and afternoon volunteering at the North Pole for the Forgotten Children’s Fund. The charity is an institution in Seattle, and organizes the distribution of Christmas gifts to children from less fortunate families. We spent the day selecting and wrapping gifts for families.

The Forgotten Children’s Fund event was the firm’s first “Volunteer Day.” The practice is currently coordinating with local charities in New Orleans and Seattle to establish a volunteer program, whereby our staff will volunteer for one paid workday per month. We hope to announce the dedicated day and the participating charities in January 2008.
