Remembering Katrina: Stones Taught Me To Fly

Hurricane Katrina delayed my bar results, destroyed my house and changed my plans. It’s hard to believe that 5 years have gone by, and it’s been about that long since I’ve looked at these pictures. They were taken in the months after the storm, when I was starting Wolfe Law Group and getting back on track.

A lot of our family, friends and colleagues have had a very difficult half-decade. Hurricane Katrina’s effects are fading, but they aren’t gone. Just from my own personal experience in the legal profession, I can see the storm’s impact lingering as the subject of on-going litigation.

The city is, however, making it along. And I feel quite lucky to have a great staff, great clients and great family and friends, who without which, Wolfe Law Group could not be the success it is today. Thanks to all of you.

New Orleans Office Dresses Up

Our Prytania Street office in New Orleans, LA opened just a few months after Hurricane Katrina, and hung across the top of our door was a banner exclaiming the office was “NOW OPEN.”

Well in those post-Katrina days, banners and temporary signage was common-place. We admit, it became a bit embarrassing that the banner hung there (taking a beating from the sun, no less) for nearly four years!

So we’ve very happy to post these photos of our new canopy and signage at the New Orleans office. The canopy also lists the co-tenants in our building, Uptown Insurance Agency.

Firm Takes New Office Photos

While everyone from Seattle was in the Crescent City for Doug & Jess’ April wedding, we put aside some time to take new group photos. We tried to keep things a bit more casual with these shots, and think they came out okay. We’ll be incorporating them into our websites over the next few weeks.

Take a look at the photos on the Picasa Web Album here. You can also view more Wolfe Law Group photos at our general web gallery.

Happy Earth Day!

earthinhandsToday, April 22, 2009, marks the 39th anniversary of Earth Day– an occassion founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson to inspire awareness and appreciation for the environment, celebrate the gains we have made and create new visions to accelerate environmental progress, according to earthday.gov.

As we enter the Green Boom, green law and green business are hot topics and just about everyone is trying to figure out a way to jump on the Green bandwagon – WLG included.

Our commitment to Going Green is going strong and we are proud of our own green efforts. Since our conception in 2005 WLG has committed significant time and resources to both practicing green business and sharing our knowledge of green business with others.

In the past 4 years WLG has enacted an ever-evolving Green Initiative that now encompasses:

  • All legal pleadings, letters and documents are printed on recycled paper made with at least 30% post-consumer materials.
  • All trashed paper is shredded and recycled;
  • The firm is committed to running a paperless office;
  • All offices have a standing no-plastics policy, and all water for clients and employees is poured from Britta pitchers into reusable glasses;
  • All offices use energy efficient lighting;
  • Business Cards, Promotional Printings and more are purchased from vendors who have environmental friendly packaging and practices;
  • Coffee is purchased from vendors who have environmentally friendly packaging and practices;

In April 2009 WLG renewed its commitment to green business practices by launching lagreenlaw.com, a green building law blog helping the contractors and lawyers of Louisiana by providing information and resources pertaining to green building news and practices. We are very excited with the results and we look forward to launching green building blogs for new states in the coming months.

We encourage you to join in our commitment to Go Green and wish you all a Happy Earth Day!

Oscar: Law Firm Document Security Officer

Here at Wolfe Law Group we’re a little obsessed (okay, maybe more than a little) with Oscar. Oscar loves shredding things for us – FedEx envelopes, paper, boxes especially. Oscar shreds these things like it’s his job. We thought we might make a little video to share Oscar’s enthusiasm for these things with you.

If You Go To New Orleans…You Gotta Go See The Mardi Gras!

12To all of our clients, friends and colleagues in and around the New Orleans area (and elsewhere), Happy Mardi Gras!

Carnival is celebrated all across the world, but especially so in New Orleans under the title “Mardi Gras.” To celebrate the holiday, our offices are closed on Monday February 23, 2009 and Tuesday February 24, 2009.

We’ve posted some photos of us out in the French Quarter, on the parade routes, and from the Bacchus Ball this weekend.

We hope that everyone has a safe Mardi Gras holiday, and we look forward to picking up business as usual later in the week.

Boarding Up and Getting Out

In preparation for Hurricane Gustav, like so many other New Orleans’ businesses, Wolfe Law Group boarded up its office and evacuated across the country. So you can see our diggs outfitted with plywood, we put up some photographs of the preparations on our company Photo Album.
