Scott Wolfe is Louisiana Contributor for ABA 50-State Construction Law Update

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Each year, the American Bar Association’s Forum on the Construction Industry conducts an annual meeting, and the Construction Law Update is distributed to its members.   The document is a compilation of cases and legislation from the past year affecting the construction industry, broken down state-by-state.

Matt DeVries of the Best Practices Construction Law Blog is one of the editors for the document, and he posted about the release of the 2009 Construction Law Update on his blog here. If you’d like to get your paws on a copy of the publication, you can email him.

A big thanks to Matt for contacting me to contribute the Louisiana update for the publication.

Marketcircle Daylite Publishes Case Study on Wolfe Law Group

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Here at Wolfe Law Group, we love our Macs, and we love Marketcircle’s business productivity management program:  Daylite.  It’s the real secret to how our organization stays so…organized, and how we’re able to manage our legal projects across three states without breaking a sweat.

Since we love Daylite so much, you can expect we were tickled pink when they selected our firm for a case study.   It was announced on their blog here.

You can click here to check out the Wolfe Law Group case study.   They even say great things and show a great picture of our office pups, Oscar.

Scott Wolfe Teaches Loyola Skills Course on Going Solo

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Arguing that “Real lief experience takes you beyond the books,” Loyola University’s New Orleans College of Law requires students to participate in its Skills Curriculum where practicing attorneys and judges teach courses designed to present students with a legal worldview and provide tools and sills to practice law.

Scott Wolfe Jr., a graduate of Loyola’s College of Law, returned to the campus to teach a second Skills course (the first was written about here).

This time, Scott taught “Solo from Scratch: Starting Up, Marketing & Finding Success.”

The presentation was given to 100 students at the school, and focused on the administrative tasks required to open a law practice, marketing concepts like “Positioning,” the use of Web 2.0 tools in business, and a practice’s short and long term goals.

The Keynote slides for the presentation are shared through Slideshare, and embedded directly within this post below.

Going Solo? Scott Wolfe gives New Orleans attorneys some advice.

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Four years ago, Scott Wolfe started Wolfe Law Group in Hurricane ravished New Orleans, LA, with a laptop and proximity to a local coffee shop.  Since then, our firm has grown to a bi-coastal practice and represents contractors, suppliers, engineers and property owners in hundreds of claims.

New Orleans City Business magazine recently published an article titled “On their own,” providing advice to attorneys in the metro area who may be considering a solo practice.   “With law firms throughout the country shedding staff,” the article by Christian Moises begins, “some attorneys are starting their own firms — either by choice or out of necessity.”

Wolfe Law Group’s Scott Wolfe was interviewed for the article, wherein he shed some light on the perils and triumphs of “going solo” and running a law firm.

Read the article on City Business’ website by clicking here.

This isn’t the first time Scott has been called upon to offer advice to those venturing on their own.   Carolyn Elefant interviewed Scott and spotlighted him in her recently published book, Solo By Choice.   Scott has also spoken to Loyola Law Students about venturing out on one’s own.

Scott Wolfe, Jr. featured in QuickBooks Online Press Release

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

intuit

Wolfe Law Group takes pride in choosing software that is not only compatible with Mac Computers, but software that provides the firm and its staff with the tools to work as efficiently as possible. Accounting is a major aspect of any business and WLG found Quickbooks Online to be the obvious software choice.

At the time of the decision, the only draw back was, Quickbooks Online only worked with Internet Explorer, a PC Windows internet browser. Although, it is indeed possible for Mac computer users to download Windows, the program works at a slower speed. About a week ago, WLG received very good news. Quickbooks Online was making the program available on the Safari internet browser! Making it much easier for WLG to manage billing, payroll and general accounting needs.

It gets better…

Along with the announcement of the use of QuickBooks Online with the Safari Browser, the program now offers improved mobile Web-browser features for the iPhone which lets users manage their accounting needs remotely. A perfect match for WLG!

Quickbooks Online published an online press release which features founding attorney of WLG, Scott Wolfe.

“Since 2700 miles separate our offices, we needed an online accounting tool to bridge the gap,” said Scott Wolfe, owner of Wolfe Law, a boutique law firm in Seattle and New Orleans. “We chose QuickBooks because it’s the standard. As we run exclusively on Macs, we used virtualization software to use QuickBooks Online, while we anxiously waited for it to support Safari. And now it does! As a result, we’re able to work a lot faster in the program now that we’re not using a workaround.”

You can view the entire press release at Intuit’s website. For more information about Wolfe Law Group, visit www.wolfelaw.com or contact Jessica Reiser at jessica@wolfelaw.com.

Easter Greeting on ABAJournal.com

Friday, April 10th, 2009

In the legal profession there is an annual contest to create a law themed diorama using Peeps easter candy. The contest? The ABA Journal’s Annual “Peeps in Law” competition. The prize? Peepturnal bragging rights.

Last week we submitted out Easter greeting to the competition and you can now view it in the ABA “Peeps in Law” slideshow on the ABA Journal site.

Our entry was one of 45 submissions from across the country, and while we did not place we had fun participating and we look forward to raising the bar next year.

We’re all stocked up on Peeps so that we can start practicing (and snacking) in preparation for “Peeps in Law 2010″.
