Scott Wolfe, Jr. Speaks at Louisiana Engineering Society Meeting

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

November 18, 2009- Scott Wolfe, Jr., founder and member of Wolfe Law Group, LLC was invited to speak at the Louisiana Engineering Society: New Orleans Chapter’s Monthly Meeting. Scott would like to extend his thanks to the LES for the invitation to speak and the opportunity to meet several people in the engineering industry.

The LES has three main chapters in the state of Louisiana and is dedicated to the advancement of the engineering profession by pursing an active leadership role through various resources.

For LES’ full mission and vision statements, click here. Incorporating speakers during the monthly meetings is just one of the many ways the LES provides its members with resources and information relevant to the field of engineering.

As a construction lawyer, Scott Wolfe consults with engineers as experts on various cases. Since the discovery of Chinese Drywall in completed construction projects across the state, he has become familiar with the basic problems of Chinese Drywall, how it effects individuals and contractors and how to proceed in the case that Chinese Drywall is detected.

The issue of Chinese Drywall is not only relevant to contractors and home/property owners, it extends to architects, engineers and attorneys. Engineers in particular are being contracted to perform inspections of homes and businesses suspected of harboring Chinese Drywall.

Scott focused his presentation on the pertinent issue of Chinese Drywall in the state of Louisiana. Below is the slide presentation that was used during the meeting yesterday.

Scott Wolfe Quoted in Forbes.com Article on Louisiana Lawyer Advertising Regulations

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

On July 29, Judge Feldman heard oral arguments from plaintiffs and defendants on the constitutionality of Louisiana’s new lawyer advertising regulations.

The new regulations are scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2009, and last week’s hearing allowed all parties to present arguments on their respective motions for summary judgment.   The judge took the matter under advisement, and will render a decision “without delay.”

Scott Wolfe Jr. and Wolfe Law Group are plaintiffs in the federal litigation.   Their suit alleges that the new regulations unconstitutionally restrict attorney speech and advertising on the Internet.

More details about the July 29th proceeding is available in an article published on Forbes.com:  Lawyers Say Limits On Their Ads Unconstitutional.    The article quotes our own Scott Wolfe, who presented oral argument for the plaintiffs at the hearing.

Contemporaneously, however, emerging legal issues are coming into focus that are specific to green building.

This blog will track the progress of green building in Louisiana and provide insight on the legal components of “building green” in the state.

Scott Wolfe Publishes Chinese Drywall Legal Guide on Avvo.com

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

avvo-logo-full-colorIn recent weeks, the Chinese Drywall contamination problem has dominated residential construction news in Florida and Louisiana.   Consumer groups like America’s Watchdog warn that the problem is likely far more widespread than that, including other countries and 12 other U.S. states (including Washington).

In response to the controversy, Wolfe Law Group has taken immediate steps to help its clients, readers and colleagues in the construction industry.

The firm announced that its practice will expand to include Chinese Drywall defense and consulting.   The new “practice area” has been added to its website WolfeLaw.com, and the firm even set up a domain for the practice area:  http://www.chinesedrywalldefense.com.

Wolfe Law Group has also dedicated substantial time and resource on its construction law blog, the Construction Law Monitor, to help educate readers about the Chinese Drywall problem, and how construction businesses are effected.   The Chinese Drywall blog entries can be found through the tag “Chinese Drywall,” or directly queried by visiting the domain:  http://www.chinesedrywallblog.com.

Today, Scott Wolfe Jr., the firm’s founding member adds to the available Chinese Drywall resources by publishing a how-to legal guide on the lawyer ratings website: Avvo.com.  The new legal guide is titled, “What To Do If You Installed or Supplied Chinese Drywall,” and provides readers with a step-by-step guide of the matters they should consider if they were involved with Chinese Drywall.

The step-by-step guide provides that affected businesses should:

  1. Determine whether they have supplied or installed Chinese Drywall;
  2. Mitigate its Damages
  3. Get Prepared
  4. Get Legal Counsel and Consider Legal Options

Curious About Our Work? We Let You Take A Look

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Deciding on an attorney to represent your company is a difficult and important choice. Unfortunately, organizations must often face this decision blind, without ever seeing that attorney in the courtroom or reading documents and arguments prepared by his or her office.

An online service from JD Supra aims at making law firms and attorneys more transparent, and Wolfe Law Group is pleased to announce its profile on JD Supra.

Our firm is so confident in our services that we’re happy to provide our clients, prospective clients and other attorneys with samples of our work. Each week, we’re posting new court documents to our JD Supra profile for anyone to download and view, along with important construction forms and articles about construction law issues.

Scott Wolfe, founding member of Wolfe Law Group, commented on the firm’s new online profile:

JDSupra’s service is really revolutionary.  Most every court pleading is public record, yet until now the work of law firms has been kept behind closed doors.  Businesses simply had to assume that their attorneys were adequately representing them.  JD Supra brings some transparency to a very closed-in profession.

All documents posted to JDSupra is accessible by subscribing to the  JD Supra RSS Feed, as well as at our JD Supra profile or our Facebook page.  Not only will the firm be posting legal pleadings through the service, but we will also use JD Supra to host the many construction forms that we provide to clients at no charge on our firm’s Resource page and Construction Law Monitor blog.
